Big Finish: Torchwood 2.5 – Broken

Jack and Ianto, and some alone time at last? Well, not quite as you’d expect…

BF TW 205 Broken

A criticism levelled at the first televised series of Torchwood was how Ianto seemed to recover his very British stiff upper lip so quickly after some very traumatic events early on, and got more integrated into the team despite the betrayals around Cyber-girlfriend Lisa. It all felt a bit of a leap – and in jumps Big Finish to tell what was happening behind the screen. Pull up a pew, I’ll get the pints in…

Big Finish: Torchwood 2.4 – Moving Target

Avid listeners of Big Finish’s Torchwood series will recall that for the fourth episode of the first season, we revisited the briefly-seen Yvonne Hartman with the divisive but really rather good One Rule. For the fourth episode of the second, we get to spend more time with another character who didn’t last too long in the televised series – Suzie Costello.

BF TW 204 Moving Target

When Suzie wakes to find Cardiff frozen in time, it’s quickly obvious that it isn’t going to be the best of days for her. Soon enough, she’s on the run from attacking aliens with Alex, the only other person not frozen, and the questions keep adding up – why are they being hunted? Just how sarcastic can one robot be? And can Suzie make it third time lucky to make it to the end of an episode alive?

Big Finish: Torchwood 2.3 – Ghost Mission

It’s fair to say that Torchwood Cardiff has had a bit of a rough time from a human resources point of view, and right from the first televised episode staff numbers have been dwindling. By 2016 it’s gotten to a point where the company creche and bring your child to work day are the same thing, and Gwen is really gasping for someone to make a half-decent cup of coffee at the very least. So now, finally… come on down, PC Sergeant Andy Davidson, it’s time to shine!

BF TW 203 Ghost Mission

It all started like such a normal day for Andy Davidson, with a nice cuppa and trying to plan how to introduce himself to a girl without seeming stalky. But then Norton Falgate quite literally appears from nowhere, and the pressure is on as Andy is to be assessed for Torchwood. There will be danger, goo, aliens, singing and analysis of the Welsh mind – but will there be breaks for tea and the loo?

Big Finish: Torchwood 2.2 – Zone 10

BF TW 202 Zone 10

April may be known for showers, but there’s a definite chill in the air as Big Finish’s second series of Torchwood heads to Russia for second episode Zone 10. Having deciphered a 40-year old encoded message, Toshiko Sato meets with Russian agency KVI to find out what secrets hide in the eponymous area. The truth may be out there – but is Tosh ready for what it may involve? Who else could have a stake in keeping Zone 10 under wraps – and how far will they go to make sure it stays hidden?

Big Finish – Torchwood 2.1: The Victorian Age

The twenty-first century is where everything changes – but Jack’s getting ready really really early…

BF TW 201 The Victorian Age

Lawks a lordy, Torchwood is back for a second series with Big Finish, and as the end of the nineteenth century nears Jack’s over at Torchwood London for a royal inspection. Unfortunately Torchwood is also due for a visit by an interstellar-ly initiated case of Murphy’s Law, and one that doesn’t stand on ceremony. One thing’s for sure – those are some serious mutton chops…

Big Finish – Torchwood 1.6: More Than This

A second outing this season of BF-Torchwood for Gwen beckons, as she’s back in Cardiff (presumably) after the events of Forgotten Lives. Hope her diary is clear though as she’s in for a Manic Morning, not least of which involves arrangements relating to a new Hub. Forget The Committee, Torchwood must now face their greatest threat – a council planning department…BF TW 106 More Than This

Some of Torchwood‘s best TV episodes were when the story scaled right back to just a couple of characters, and More Than This fits right in as Planning Officer Roger Pugh (Richard Nichols) gets to experience first hand a particularly busy day in the life of Gwen Cooper. There will be speeding, decapifenestration (if that isn’t a word it ought to be!), art criticism and a choice of salad ingredient – but will the right health and safety forms be filled in correctly?

Big Finish – Torchwood 1.5: Uncanny Valley

Jack’s back! John Barrowman returns to the first series of BF Torchwood in this month’s Uncanny Valley, and expectations are high. We’ve circled Wales and Turkey and taken in the space of a few years, but with Jack back things must be coming to a – ahem – head, right?

BF TW 105 Uncanny Valley

Well, yes and no – in more than one sense. For in this penultimate episode, Jack is investigating an individual, uber-wealthy CEO Neil Redmond (Steven Cree) who has recently been returning to public life after a terrifying accident. But is his level of recovery surprising considering his injuries? While he speaks in St Petersburg, who is Jack watching in his secluded castle near Cardiff? And will we finally start to get answers about The Committee?

Big Finish – Torchwood 1.4: One Rule

After last month’s trek 5 years beyond Miracle Day, it’s back in time for One Rule and a pre-Battle of Canary Wharf Yvonne Hartman.

BF TW 104 One Rule

Director of Torchwood One in London, we last saw Yvonne in the Army of GhostsDoomsday two-parter, (if you’re not familiar, now’s a good time to check out the two episodes… done? Yes, it is a striking resemblance between Martha and her cousin!) so she’s possibly not be the most expected choice of episode star for this series. It’s also the first time that Yvonne has appeared in a story under the Torchwood banner, so does One Rule manage to keep consistent quality with the previous stories?

Big Finish – Torchwood 1.3: Forgotten Lives

BF TW 103 Forgotten Lives

Do you ever wonder as you get older where the time has gone, that it just seems to accelerate so that what seemed like just a few weeks ago was in fact much longer? Well, since last month’s Fall to Earth it seems that several years has passed to when we pick up with Gwen and Rhys in Forgotten Lives.

It’s been half a decade since the Miracle, and Torchwood’s surviving couple seem to be comparatively settled – such as they can be – raising their daughter and quietly avoiding attention. But a strange phonecall draws them northwards to the isolation of the Bryn Offa Nursing Home, and before you can say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch it’s clear that there’s something unnatural going on – that laundry is going to have to wait…

Torchwood 1.2 Fall To Earth - Big Finiah

Time again for new Torchwood, and the second part of the new Big Finish series heralds the return of everyone’s favourite tea boy – Ianto Jones is here! Well, I say “here”, does the edge of the atmosphere count? He’s headed this way at least… what, under control? Bah, some people want everything…
