FIND OUT HOW RIVER SONG MEETS THE EIGHTH DOCTOR – IN THE NEW ISSUE OF DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE!
 Doctor Who Magazine #495

Doctor Who Magazine finds out what happens when River Song runs into the Eighth Doctor in the new audio series The Diary of River Song – and interviews both Paul McGann and Alex Kingston!

“River has to interact with the Eighth Doctor to save him, to help him,” explains Alex. “When she’s figured out how she can do that without having to be physically present in front of him, alongside helping him, she can then tease and flirt a little bit, because she knows she’s safe, and she knows she hasn’t overstepped a boundary, or changed his or her future in any way by that actual physical interaction. So she can then have fun! She’s in control.”

And what does the Eighth Doctor make of River?

The Time War Comes to Big Finish

Well, this author at least never saw this coming…

The War Doctor Only The Monstrous

Previously only the topic of myth and teasing references, the Time War becomes the setting for a new series from Big Finish, starring John Hurt as the War Doctor, and Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor.

Following the proven format of the popular Dark Eyes boxsets, and starting this December, Big Finish have lined up four boxsets starring John Hurt as the War Doctor as introduced during the 50th anniversary.  The Eighth Doctor will appear in a boxset in 2017 exploring the early days of the War prior to the events of Night of the Doctor.

The first boxset, Only the Monstrous, is out in a few short months in December 2015, followed by Infernal Devices in February and 2 more volumes currently in pre-production.

For full details and pre-orders, check out the announcement on the Big Finish website.

Big Finish Eighth Doctor – Dark Eyes 3

The Dark Eyes 3 box set is out and Ol’ Eightie is back – although not, for the most part, in the company of his current companions, Irish pretend nurse Molly O’Sullivan and mopey erstwhile botwrangler Liv Chenka.

In his quest for universal domination, the Master plans to exploit the terrifying Infinite Warriors of the mysterious Eminence. The Doctor’s friend, Molly, is key to that plan’s execution, and now, aided by corrupted genius Sally Armstrong, the Master is close to success.

DE3-Flat

It is pretty clear that DE3’s writer Matt Fitton faced a number of structural challenges with the scripts for the four stories comprising this box set, caused in no small part by the unavailability of key cast members for recording at the same time due to other work commitments. That the box set is as good as it is, therefore, is no mean feat and a cause for praise in itself; but there’s a certain heaviness to the plotting nonetheless that makes it all, sadly, a little laboured. Five(ish) Doctors Reboot Sequel?

The_Five(ish)_Doctors_Reboot
Doctor Who 24/7 are reporting that according to Paul McGann (and he would know, let’s face it), a sequel to the incredibly popular Five(ish) Doctors Reboot is in the works.

This is excellent news, as the original was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the 50th anniversary.
